Breath & Voice for Actors & Public Speakers
May 28, 2025 - June 18, 2025
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
w/ Kristof Konrad (PART 2 of a 2 part series)
May 28 – June 18, 2025 | Wednesdays, 10:00 am-12:00 pm (PDT)
We all breathe, but how well are we breathing?
Actors, singers, and public speakers need a highly developed instrument to meet performance demands. Faulty information and limitations in habitual body and breathing patterns can significantly interfere with free and efficient breathing.
There are four components of effective communication: body, breath, voice, and articulation. Clearing up misconceptions about these four components and learning how to use your instrument correctly & efficiently has the power to transform your performance.
PART 2: THE BREATHING COSTUME
Application of Part 1 to create an effortless performance; using the breath as a vehicle for character development
Prerequisite:
*Completion of Part 1 or past students of Speaking on the Breath class.
Breath is fuel in voice production. The sound we create is not solely about volume. Particularly in film and TV, our voice must be free and vibrant to convey the character’s complex emotional life. We will begin each class with warm-ups, followed by intensive work with text chosen by you. We will also explore:
- the concept of “one breath, one thought”
- the idea of “the breathing costume” in character development
- the intimacy of the space
- the sound volume in theatre, film, TV, and V/O
- the integration of breath, voice, and movement → bringing it ALL together
Students will choose and memorize a short monologue, poem, speech, or song for practice.
