Margot Robbie trained with Jean-Louis Rodrigue to embody Queen Elizabeth I in Josie Rourke‘s upcoming Mary Queen of Scots. Mary Stuart (Saoirse Ronan) attempts to overthrow her cousin Elizabeth I, which finds her condemned to years of imprisonment before facing execution.
Playing Queen Elizabeth I tends to be the most demanding role because of the physical, vocal, and emotional requirements of the character. Margot prepared with Jean-Louis to deal with the very tight and uncomfortable costumes of the period, the health issues of the character, and the unusual energy and physicality required by this iconic monarch.
“Jean-Louis Rodrigue’s method is now an invaluable staple in my preparation for roles. Not only do I have a better understanding of my character, I have a better understanding of myself as a whole person. And I can begin to live and breathe as the character.”
